Bird Migration Season in Tanzania

As the long rains green the landscape, Tanzania becomes a paradise for birdwatchers. Migratory species from Europe and Asia join the country's resident birds, swelling the count to well over a thousand species.

The wetlands of Lake Manyara and the soda flats of Lake Natron draw flamingos in their thousands, while the forests of the Usambara and Udzungwa mountains shelter rare endemics found nowhere else on earth.

Pack a good pair of binoculars and travel with a specialist guide — the difference between a nice walk and an unforgettable birding day is almost always the person reading the bush for you.
