Marangu Route
The Coca-Cola Route
Southeast side of the mountain
Overview
Marangu is the oldest established trail and the only route that sleeps in dormitory-style huts rather than tents. Climbers ascend and descend by the same path. The 5-day standard schedule moves too fast for many bodies to acclimatise, which is why we strongly recommend the 6-day version with an extra night at Horombo.
Why this route?
- Climbers who prefer huts over tents
- Budget-conscious trips with limited days
- Climbers happy to repeat the same trail down
Highlights
- Permanent A-frame huts with bunks
- Maundi Crater detour above Mandara
- Saddle crossing between Mawenzi and Kibo
