Tanzania is a year-round destination, but what you'll see changes dramatically with the seasons. Knowing the rhythm of the year is the single most useful thing when planning a trip.
Dry season (June–October)
The classic safari window: wildlife gathers around water, vegetation is thin and game viewing is at its easiest. It's also the busiest and priciest time, so book early.
Green season (November–March)
Lush scenery, newborn animals, fewer crowds and lower prices. February brings the wildebeest calving in the southern Serengeti.
The long rains (April–May)
The quietest, greenest and best-value months. Some remote camps close, but birding is superb and the landscapes are at their most beautiful.
